We're thrilled to introduce one of the newest members of the Configura family! Meet Aaron Okkema, our Global Head of Commercial Interiors.
Introduce yourself, who are you?
I'm a proud Canadian, father of three rambunctious kids, and have been married to my wonderful wife for 19 years. I love cars, home renovations, and hockey, and spend my time coaching kids' sports or volunteering at our church. Our family loves to travel, and we’re excited about our upcoming trip to Yellowstone. I’m also an avid reader and cook, always ready to try new dishes!
Can you describe your role?
Think of me as the conductor of resources at Configura to ensure we are supporting and growing the Commercial Interiors Industry both now and into the future. I will focus most of my time externally, engaging with our clients and end users, and will use those relationships and learnings to lead the CI Industry and direct our strategy as it relates to product offerings, areas of investment and potential partnerships.
How do you think your industry experience in Commercial Interiors can benefit Configura?
Having spent years discussing with clients the importance of space in impacting company culture, employee satisfaction, and workplace success, I see this as the core of the CI world. Companies invest heavily in Real Estate and Facilities, and they need those investments to pay off long-term. My experience will help Configura truly understand the manufacturer’s and dealer’s pain points and challenges, while also anticipating their future needs to remain relevant and valuable to their customers.
What inspired you to join the Configura team, and what's the most exciting aspect of being part of the Configura family?
Many things! I love Configura’s European approach to business—from weekly FIKA breaks to our environmental focus, and our appreciation for and support of the whole employee, both at work and at home. It’s clear that Configura exists to be a change agent in the world, focusing on much more than just optimizing profit.
Working for a small, Swedish company that has global reach and the ability to impact so many customers is incredibly exciting. We have immense potential to serve our customers in unique, thoughtful, and impactful ways for years to come, making our work both energizing and fulfilling
Can you describe the Configura company culture?
Configura has grown beyond the tech startup phase and as a result, the culture of the company is evolving from one of a scrappy, get-it-done entrepreneur to that of an established company that cherishes its roots and is looking to remain agile while also tending for the needs of its long-term clients. Configurans are creative, energetic, and driven, and the culture of the company reflects this.
