ENHANCING OUR ECOSYSTEM
Product Team Year in Review
Configura continues to grow year over year with the implementation of product enhancements and the launch of new products.
We listen to our users—those who manufacture goods for use in the commercial interiors, material handling or kitchen & bath industries and those who design and plan spaces using our software ecosystem.
From our perspective, our goals are always to understand the needs of our customers, uncover any pain points they have and solve problems by providing the best user experience and products for designing, specifying, showing and selling spaces.
Our growing ecosystem of products.
Seven important product launches in 2022
Several new products became available for CET Commercial Interiors, CET Material Handling and CET Kitchen & Bath throughout the year.An architectural visualization tool powered by Unreal Engine, which is a game engine developed by Epic Games available for use in all three CET environments. It enables architects and designers to quickly and easily create high-quality images, panoramas, flythroughs and animations of products, buildings, cities and even entire landscapes.
As part of CET Essentials for Material Handling, this pallet racking solution significantly accelerates the sales and design process with intuitive placement and calculations of pallet racking systems. Using storage components as well as built-in calculations, this solution greatly accelerates the design process and allows users to insert pallet racks in design drawings as a placeholder: plus: export product counts and schematics for accurate pricing.
A solution added in response to the call for more realistic colors, textures and patterns for product symbols available in CET Commercial Interiors. This is the first in a series of enhancements that will support one-click rendering and stronger photorealistic visuals.
A solution that enables multiple people to work simultaneously on different sections of a project, without the hassle of manually keeping track of changes. In 2022, we published a free cloud-based version of this product for use in CET Material Handling.
The addition of a visual tool with generic kitchen products which follow European industry standards. Using smart symbols, users draw and lay out accurate kitchen spaces for planning purposes with the ability to add specific product brands later.
A solution that allows users to save and load their preferred way of working in CET. Templates greatly simplify the design process and prevent user error when setting up a new drawing. Created in partnership with our UI/UX research team, Templates were added in direct response to a valid and common user request within CET for all industries.
Products new to our ecosystem
Configura rebranded products for use in the commercial interiors industry following the ProjectMatrix acquisition including:
- Commercial Interiors Library—a tool that gives designers and salespeople a competitive advantage by allowing access to a huge library of supplemental data to produce high-quality drawings and detailed product listings to use for quotes, design layouts and sales documents.
- Spec—a powerful specification tool were users can import a file from CET Commercial Interiors, AutoCAD and other industry design programs.
- Workspace—a CAD-based design program featuring the best aspects of AutoCAD combined with high-powered design tools.
- Notify—a digital library that publishes manufacturer's catalogues and data.
PERFORMANCE AND PRODUCT SPEED
The performance of every product we offer is vital to our success. In Q2-Q4 2022, we focused resources and efforts into understanding our user community and their experience whenever they run a Configura software solution—from start times to rendering exports and all the clicks in between.
During March through May we surveyed the user community, specifically those using CET Commercial Interiors, and used the results to develop high priority items for our team to address.
We released “hot fixes” bi-weekly and worked with a beta user group to test and gather feedback. We also enlisted a temporary developer support team to assist in identifying and fixing manufacturer Extension performance issues.
From May through December, we launched three performance-focused task groups based on our findings. One team focused on big ticket performance issues that are addressed in Major and Minor releases. Another team focused on creating developer tools, as well as the performance of the Commercial Interiors Library. The final team focused entirely on the startup time of CET.
In addition to the survey results obtained in Q2 2022, we started traveling to dealerships to identify issues and gather additional data in-person.
The average load time for a user with 11-20 Extensions dropped from 100 seconds to just 40 seconds.
As a result of these continued efforts, the average load time for a user with 11-20 Extensions dropped from 100 seconds (about 1 and a half minutes) to just 40 seconds and the average CET startup time for a user with 21-30 seconds dropped from 140 seconds (about 2 and a half minutes) to just 90 seconds (about 1 and a half minutes).
Following this work, we are continuing with our momentum and building processes and documents to support and train developers in QA practices that allow Configura and our partners to be proactive, rather than reactive when it comes to the performance and speed of our solutions.
