Meet Debbie Dawkins, Senior Interior Designer at Dupler Office in Columbus, OH
Over the past few decades, technological advancements have transformed the interior design industry, particularly software tools such as Configura’s CET and SPEC. To exemplify this transformative journey, we turn to the story of Debbie Dawkins, Configura's User of the Month and a Senior Interior Designer at Dupler Office, an Ohio-based HNI dealer specializing in commercial interior design. “I was excited about CET and SPEC joining forces as we’re now seeing even more seamless transitions between sales, design and order,” said Dawkins.
After more than a decade away, Dawkins returned to a commercial interior industry vastly different from the one she left. When she returned, her dealership, Dupler, transitioned to CET and SPEC, causing Dawkins to adjust from her previous design software experience. Her ability to adopt new technologies became an integral part of her success. In her shift to CET and SPEC, she experienced significant improvements in her workflow, making her daily projects more manageable.
Established in 2007, Dupler employs roughly fifty people, nine versed in CET and 25 users of SPEC. Among them, Dawkins is exemplary, being one of the first trained on SPEC and significantly improving the time it takes for her colleagues to comprehend the new software. “The shift to a different program was challenging at first, but I adapted and now use SPEC consistently in every project,” said Dawkins. “I enjoy the mix of working with SPEC and CET, and I can ensure all work is done smoothly, error-free, and ready for pricing. It also makes me happy that Configura continues improving the collaborative capabilities between the two programs.”
Enhanced Workflow with SPEC
In her workflow, Dawkins starts by creating designs and drawings in CET and then moves them to SPEC to finalize the specifications. Her work is more manageable, knowing that the content is 100% the same after moving files from CET to SPEC, with no data loss or pricing discrepancies. She noted that adding a new interface button has streamlined this process significantly.
“SPEC has proven to be a game-changer for me,” boasted Dawkins. “It helps eliminate simple mistakes, boosts productivity and enhances margins on every project I work on. I would recommend it to fellow designers without hesitation.”
Industrywide Impact
At the end of the day, Dawkins recognizes the industry-wide transformation brought about by Configura's CET and SPEC products. What was once a meticulous process of reviewing every design piece is now streamlined, accurate and efficient thanks to these innovative tools.
