Main improvements and new features in CET Designer 2.5

Improved support for CAD import

  • Support has been added for leader lines and many types of Proxy objects, such as AEC walls, in imported CAD drawings.
  • If an entity within a block is set to layer 0 it will use the block's layer settings. Otherwise it will use the layer set for that particular entity.
  • In the CAD (dwg/dxf) dialog box, there are two new buttons to make layer selection easier : Select all and Select none.
  • dwg files exported from Revit should import correctly into CET Designer.

Scheme handling

  • Scheme setups can now be imported and exported, which enables you to share them with others or to work with them on a different computer. You can always return to the default settings by selecting the Default scheme available in the Scheme manager dialog box.
  • The Scheme manager dialog box can now be resized. Simply grab one of the dialog box corners and stretch to the desired size.

Note: Scheme handling is an Extension specific feature and hence not available on CET Designer Core component tabs.

Calculation improvements

  • Sorting now shows in the View settings dialog box, which increases general control and visibility.
  • Sorting on more than one column at the same time is now enabled. To customize the sorting order, follow these steps: 1) Open the View settings dialog box from the Calculation's File menu 2) Click the Sorting tab 3) Select the check boxes for the categories you wish to sort your articles by.

  • The search feature has become more specific and fine-grained.
  • It is now possible to select and edit the same cells over multiple rows at the same time.
  • The option Copy current view has been added to the File menu.
  • The functionality of the Reset default button that appears on every tab has been modified. Now when clicking it, it will reset the current view to CET Designer system default.
  • A button for easy removal of unused adjustments in an Article view has been added. Unused adjustments are items that have been removed from the drawing after being manually changed in the Calculation. Should you have unused adjustments in your article view, displayed as red lines, the removal tool automatically appears on the Article view toolbar.

Working with lighting and rendering

  • The Rendering dialog has undergone a larger update and now offers detailed control of different settings as well as the ability to save different light setups.
  • When using the advanced graphics engine and working with light settings, the Camera slider is now its own light.
  • Use of external process for rendering is now enabled by default when activating the advanced graphics engine. When this is the case, Rendering limits are disabled by default, but can be manually turned back on if desired.
  • Spotlights now offer detailed control of light temperature, i.e. the color nuance in the image.
  • Frozen objects will no longer display in the 3D view when a rendering is performed.
  • Frozen objects will no longer display in the 2D view when a print is called.

A clearer view of the Paper view

  • The new possibility of specifying an elevation value for each object makes it clearer what is placed on top of what in the Paper view. To set an elevation value for an object in the Paper view, simply click the object and specify the required elevation value in the input box that appears.
  • The name of the tab Drawing 3D (paper) has been changed to Drawing (paper).
  • Objects in the Paper view can be moved up or down by pressing the Page Up (Pg Up) and Page Down (Pg Dn) keys on your keyboard.
  • As part of phasing out Title blocks, CET Designer no longer supports the creation of new title blocks in version 2.5 and onwards. You will still be able to load your saved Title blocks.
  • 2D view ports now display a higher quality image when locked.

Note: a view port in edit mode will always show on top of other objects to maintain full visibility, but once a print is called the view port follows the set elevation value. This is also the case with a currently selected view port, which will also show on top to maintain full visibility while working.

About Part Tagging rectangles

  • When working with the tagging rectangle tool, a smaller rectangle always takes precedence over a larger one, when it comes to determining which tag an object belongs to.

  • Tagging rectangles now have improved rotation support similar to most other objects in CET Designer. Simply grab and drag the central point to rotate. (Tagging rectangles still retain full support for rotation by using the keyboard keys).
  • A clearer visual indication of what happens when different tagging rectangles overlap has been added.

Quick-skip through menus and optimized object data handling

  • You can now quickly skip through drop-down menus and tree views by using the keyboard keys. For example, by pressing the 'S' key in a drop-down menu, you will be transferred to the posts starting with the letter 'S'.
  • The handling of object data has been optimized which makes CET Designer respond faster when only the 2D view is visible.

Changes in the 2D view

  • Two new tools for rotating and aligning components have been added to the 2D view toolbar: 3 point rotation and 4 point rotation.

Tip! The 3 point rotation and the 4 point rotation tools can be very useful when, for example, you want to specify a custom rotation point and a very precise rotation angle. The 4 point rotation tools also enable you to align a component with a reference object, for example a help line.

  • The Tools tab has been slightly re-organized and Arrows now make up their own field. Also, the tool Multiple lines that stay connected has been added to the Tools tab.
  • The different help lines and help points will now always show on top of other objects in the 2D view.

  • Thanks to the new Import texture feature, you are now able to add and use your own panorama views as backgrounds in CET Designer. To import your own texture, follow these steps: 1) From the 3D component tab, select Choose background 2) Select the Panorama tab 3) Click the Import texture button 4) Browse to find your texture and click Open 5) Adjust the texture with the Texture scale and the Texture offset fields or the zoom slider to make it better fit the background. 6) When you are satisfied, click Close.
  • A zoom slider has been added, and the Texture scale and Texture offset fields can be used to better align and fit you custom view to the background.

Tip! Working with different settings for a 3D background and the CET Photo Series simultaneously, you are able to create instant snapshots of different settings and use them in your documentation.

Architectural walls and ceilings

  • The Cut and Copy commands are no longer available for locked walls.
  • Manually placed ceilings will now follow wall transparency settings.
  • Automatic ceilings now have an option that allows them to cast shadows just like manually placed ceilings.
  • When rendering a view, a "solid" automatic ceiling completely obscures the view from a camera of what is below the ceiling, i.e. it blocks the line of sight as if it was a solid wall and is not affected by turning on transparent walls.

Fixes

Below is a selection of all fixes and changes that have been made for CET Designer 2.5.

  • A warning dialog box has been added in case CET Designer is unable to start the graphics engine due to other software interfering with OpenGL. This should no longer cause a crash.
  • Fixed problem with individual tags that would incorrectly show in the Calculation although they are not visible in the Part Tagging dialog box. These tags should now correctly be visible in the Part Tagging dialog box.
  • Fixed problem with dwg export causing everything to be assigned to layer 0.
  • Fixed problem with dwg import for arc lines with low arc degree values importing as straight lines.
  • Fixed problem with Printable Article view and very large drawings that would slow down moving or resizing the view very much.
  • Fixed problem with 3D view ports not properly showing white background even though that option was enabled.
